NACo Prescription Discount Card Program now offering greater benefits

The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) is very excited to be part of the new NACo Prescription Discount Drug Card offering. This new program provides the county with an option to retain $1.00 for the county general fund every time the NACo Prescription Discount Drug Card is used in your county to help citizens receive discounts on their prescription drugs. The company that provides the NACo card, CVS Caremark, will distribute the program administration fee to the county on a quarterly basis.

The AIC has verified through the State Board of Accounts that counties are permitted to retain the program administration fee as long as the fee is directed to the county general fund to benefit the county as a whole. A sample ordinance that the AIC submitted to the State Board of Accounts for review is available by clicking here.

The National Association of Counties through a  partnership with CVS Caremark provides a FREE prescription discount card exclusively for NACo member counties to offer to their residents. The card offers discounts on prescriptions for residents who are uninsured, underinsured, seniors and pet owners in the county. The card can even be used to help inmates get discounts on prescriptions.

The NACo Prescription Discount Card Program is NOT insurance.

Renewal Contract: In order to participate in revenue sharing, counties must sign the new contract. Click here for copy of revenue sharing contract. Note: residents will use the same drug card regardless of whether or not participating counties choose to enroll in the revenue sharing option.

Sample Ordinance: Click here for a sample of an ordinance that must be adopted for Indiana Counties to partake in the optional revenue sharing fee. This sample ordinance has been reviewed by the Indiana State Board of Accounts.
